LCD display problem

Hi All, Great site you have here, and im wondering if you can help with something thats had my head banging against a wall for sometime.

Basically I mod dash lighting for the NEW MINI, have done for years, and now were working on the NEW NEW MINI thats being released and im struggling to find out whats wrong with the speedo that ive been working on.

As you can see from the pics below, the standard orange LCD display has bright lettering with a duller back ground. The NEW BLUE ive done, simply by changing the SMDs and changing the orange filter to clear/blue seems to have the lettering in black, when in fact it "should technically" be bright blue.

Never had a problem before, so of course im a little frustrated to what the cause can be.

Any ideas would be gratefully received ?
