lcd 16x2

Hi guys
recently i bought a LCD 16x2 to connect with my pic18f4520 .But when i got the LCD i saw that there are 16 pin in the lcd two more pin for LED backlight.
My question is to i have to connect the two LED back light pin or it will work fine and without those.

Hi,

It will work fine without the backlight.

The backlight typically need about 4.2v max so a dropper resistor from the +5v line is needed if you want it on.

Yes!!! The small screens can take @300mA - -- @120mA your datasheet will tell you. I use either a 20Ω or an 82Ω resistor to current limit the backlight.
