laser and capacitor bank

Would connecting this laser to a capacitor bank charged by a battery and discharged quickly by a switch create a very short, high energy laser beam ( i mean enough to pop a ballon)

Kinda like a rail gun

Is this possible? Then the possibility to pop ballons at some pretty long ranges would be sweet.

High power diode lasers don't really work that way exactly. They are used as pumps along with yag rods in amplifier cavities to generate the high power pulses. Although the diodes themselves are getting more powerful each year.
The Cap bank with a pulse forming inductor would be used with a flashlamp pumped yag rod.
