The diff between modern BASIC and C are small enought that it makes the entire langauge debate more or less pointless.

I'd love to add a recent BASIC language offering to my 'toolbox' but I simply don't have the funds to purchase a BASIC language

Not as robust in the library department as the commercial products. But at least you can make your own, if your are so inclined. Handles us timing delays no problem, and has a 'pass thru' assembly capability.
