Is there a program to play with circuits/gates?

I'm trying to figure out how gates work and have a good concept of their operation on their own but can't quite rap my head around using them in multiple combinations. Is there a program that will allow you to see visually the effect of multiple gates and allow you to design a circuit on the computer prior to building it? Is there a "digital breadboard" program out there to design circuits? Thanks!

there is a free digital simulator for some TTL at:

I haven't tried any others but it was kind of fun...helped me figure out a 4-to-1of8 decoder logic problem.

There are a few out there.

A simplier one is called winbreadboard which allows you to put gate chips down on a simulated breadboard.

Wouldn't pay for the full version though as you can get a demo of it.

A more advanced one is Xilinx and its modelsim counter part. Its no where near as light weight as the first one I posted, as its a gig download... but its super powerful. The freeware can do something like 100k gates, or just a simple and circuit.

Pspice can also simulate logic, but I'm unsure if the student version supports and/or gates.

Win bread board is the easiest to use and get a hold of.

You might also try ProfiLab 4.0 Expert. It's not only good for playing, but a solid base for digital projects.

Most parts are interactive.

thank you

I was able to get my design working with this awesome program. Thank you so much for the help...I will be trying the other suggested programs shortly!!
