IR transistor

hi i know the drawing isnt showing the correct device but i cant find the right one, but hopefuly it will show what i want to do.
ok so the situation is i want to connect a photo transistor to a pic as per the diagram, i would like the pin held low untill a IR beam hits the transistor at wich point i want the pin pulled high. so my question is do i have the connections right in the diagram? cheers chaps :D
forgot to mention the transistor is NPN :D

This works a little better

5 volts IR off and around 0 volts IR on
