All either does is connect a standard IR receiver to a computer's serial port. The sensitivity of the IR receiver is determined by the TSOP, so either circuit is equal. I'm guessing that any differences result in what the software does with serial data stream...

Girder is trial only $50 after that.
The other is comand line linex.
Who cares about the hardware.
In this case its the software that counts.
Look for an USB IR adapter.

Then should use the circuit that the software requires.
What software do you have?

Either of those circuits will work as well as the other, I spose the 2nd is a little more professional.

Please note if you try this on a usb to serial adaptor it probably wont work.
