IP Power Circuit

Hi,

I am new to electronics, but quick to learn. What i'm looking to do is have a device that can use an ethernet cable to complete a circuit, such as power on off. I need to be able to send a signal from my router which will allow me to power on or off a power socket.

Any starting points would be great, electronic kits, suggestions, links, im open.
