internal design of voltage regulator

all i wanna know
what is the internal design of the voltage regulator
is it some resistances series ??
and a variable one its value determined by the applied voltage
??

The datasheet of every voltage regulator IC has its schematic. For a 7805 5V regulator there are two zener diodes, many transistors and many resistors (plus one capacitor).

To see the schematic of an adjustable regulator then look at the datasheet of an LM317.
