Last night I was exploring the dark alleys of the Internet when I found this: A Guy who took apart and modified almost every electrical circuit on his Toyota Prius. I don't own one but is still very interesting to see.
Seems like a lot of overkill to do what common commercial and industrial application VFD units with mass produced IGBT, Mosfet, and Darlington transistor based switching device tech have been doing for decades, and at far far higher HP power levels, than what the Prius motor runs at.
Now if it was pushing 1000+ amps with a 600 VDC rail voltage then yes I would be more impressed with the control system but 25ish HP at ~100 amps on ~220 volts not so much.
Well Tcmtech, taking in account that any minor failure will result in media coverage, public outrage, voodoo attacks and brand value going down, no wonder why they exaggerate.
For the untrained eye like mine, that complex circuitry and IGBTs swimming in strange silicone look like space ship guts.
