integration of remote and manual mode control in a system

hi..

does anyone know of any journals/articles which discuss techniques on how SMS control of home appliances are integrated together with manual control of the appliances itself?

For example, if there was a user at home and a user outside who would like to control the same appliance, priority would be given to the user at home..etc...

I have a general idea of how im going to implement this integration but I would like to reference it with established standards.

are there any existing products / standards relating to this matter? or anyone experience in the industry with an opinion
