inkjet cartridge circuit testing, help needed?

hello
i have a project in which i want to understand the signal generated from the printher to the cartridge (build in circuit like hp and lexmark and not seprate tanks like canon or epson) inorder to make it print and so on

from where i can start ?
can i attach a device (oscilliscope maybe ) to each pin of the printer and monitor the signals for example ?
