Is it possible to use a standard infrared pair to detect heat in a distance. Say, 20-50cm? It's going to be something like thermography but it should be able to detect temperature at its target pinpoint, instead of the use of imaging.

Google gives many hits for such a device

i think it might be possible

Thanks a lot for the replies! However, what I want in specific would be the possible models of the IR thermometer sensors. Most of the items popped out were complete packages.
