Is there an inexpensive way to get -5v and/or -12v DC from a +12v DC?

I need to be able to handle about an amp? ( for quite a few dual supply op-amps )

I've seen a couple solutions such as this but the amp rating runs a bit shy.

Thanks in advance for comments and suggestions.

What do you want to power?

Does it need to be regulated?

Is the current rating the same on all rails or is 1A the maximum total current?
