Why do DMMs that have a capacitance range not also have a capability to read inductance?

My Fluke DMM reads "0.L" while attempting to measure inductance in CAP mode. It should just read a negative capacitance.

No?

A few DMM do have an inductor function. However a capacitance function will not work to measure inductors

Lefty

Some meters determine capacitance by measuring how long it takes a constant current to charge the capacitor to a given voltage. Obviously that same technique will not measure inductance.

The comparable measurement for an inductor would be to apply a constant voltage to the inductor and measure the time it takes to reach a given current.
