Why would you bother, as they are cheap as chips off fleabay.

It would cost you more in parts than you can buy the ready made item for.

Pete.

No the thing is what is the process going their, converting the ide to usb ? is the wires just connected or another process is going?

IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) is much more that just wires on a connector. It is a complete interface for data transfer including controller and hardware. It is also a Parallel interface. USB (Universal Serial Bus) is a serial interface, also with a controller. The process for both (if you want to refer to it as a process) is data transfer. You have apples and oranges as Parallel and Serial data transfer are quite different.

Can any one tell me that a ide to usb cable can be done by my own without purchasing ? .

The short simple answer is NO! Can it be done? Yes, but with additional hardware. It is not as simple as moving a few wires around.

Which way do you want this thing to work?
From a usb socket on a computer to a external ide plug?

Or from a ide socket on a computer to a external usb socket.

When you say ide do you mean sata.

Here is a fleabay link for one that is listed as $1.00 plus about $2.50 postage.

There is no way in hell you could build it for $3.50.

Pete.
