IC for returning volts & amps? Then displaying?

Hi, does anyone know of an IC that can get the volts and amps from an input and display it on a digital led display?

You could buy a digital multimeter for about $10, far less than building something from scratch. Intersil makes such an IC but it costs more than $10

Oh, well actually I already have a multimeter, but I was planning on installing this inside a generator.

Could you please tell me what IC(s) I need?

An ICL 7107 chip could be used.
A google search immediately found a few projects:

However, the cost of making it may be higher than buying a complete ready made panel meter, there are now many being sold cheaply on ebay by Chinese or Irish sellers in various colour LEDs or LCDs.
