I don't understand what the MOT pin does on this boost converter

It says the current flowing through the resistor to ground sets the slope of the ramp (which determines the max on time I'm guessing?) but it doesn't show any formula or anything on to how to chose the value of the resistor to set the slope you want. Also, in the example schematic, the auxiliary winding is connected to this pin, for what purpose I dont know. It says in the datasheet that it's biased at 2.9V, so it shouldn't need a voltage source on it?
