How to use PIC16f689?

I need to use the A/D to read in a POT then send that data into an extranl memory 24lc256 when switch one is "1" ,but when switch one is "0" send to PC using max233 serial adapter. How do I go by doing this. I am new to PIC and I have Kit 2 programmer, but don't know where and how to do this. Please help
