How could the presence of silver Ag inside a sealed pottery box be sensed electronically with no intrusion ?

Have a look at Pulse Induction (PI) metal detectors. These work by inducing eddy currents in the target object and measuring the decay time. Different metals produce delays proportional to their resistance.
