my programmer doesn't work in my pc
while it works on the other pcs
it uses the com port and flashmagic software for programming isp based p89v51rd2 microcontroller
how to check the com port

Does it use the serial port for power or does it have external power? Some programmers snag a tiny bit of power to run from the unused status lines which may not work on some com ports? If you supply the programmer circuit power from an adapter it may work. This is a fault of the programmer not the serial port even if it works on other machines. The other machines may have full RS232 ports where as your machine does not. Are you using a serial to USB adapter on your computer? More specifics are required to help you.

First thing, the flsahmagic programmer uses the externl supply of 14.5 V with 150 ma. Did you given the supply??

Now to check the COM Port make the pin no 2 and 3 of it shorted through some external wire and make the hyperterminal connection with default setting. Now type some thing on the hyperterminal you will get the echo of it.

If not change the port configuration manily the port selection and check for all COM Port available. If it doesn't work for any your COM Port then it is BOOMMM!! if it is an external one.

If you are using the on board one check the BIOS setting whether the onboard serial port is enabled or not??
