I have a stepdown transformer from 240 volts to 110 volts that drives from 1 to 4 solenoid coils 20 watts each. I have put a 1 amp fuse for safety. Now the problem is that every time a coil is shorted the transformer will burn out and have to change it. Is there any circuit which I can build to protect the transformer. will appriciate any help. Thanks

i think that the power of the transformer is less than the power of the coiles so all you have to do is to change the transformer with abiger one
out put power 4*20=80w
so the input power should be higher (about a200w)

Hi,
try a _matching_ fuse for each solenoid coil.
80W @ 110V makes ~0,75A, so a 1A-Fuse seems a bit oversized.

A 315 mA meter fuse for each coil will protect the transformer. These fuses are fast and readily available.
