Help needed regarding FPGA

Hi!
I want to know all about FPGA's....I know this is an open ended query, but still can someone please tell me about it and where and how to start reading about it.

You can obtain free versions of Xilinx and Altera design S/W from their websites. The tools handle low to moderate densisty FPGAs.
