That's why i'm asking... I have NO clue what it is, i found it lying in my junk box.

Yes it's a 14pin IC

This is a standard CMOS A Series quad 2-input NOR.

The difference between this and a 4001BE is that the 4001AE has NO protection diodes on the inputs.

If I remember correctly - the old grey cells are fading - the B series had slower switching due to the protection diodes and that some tried and tested circuits would not work if you used B series chips.

We had to wait a few years while the manufacturers 'improved' the chips - and charged more for the pleasure.
