GSM GPRS handset project

Hi everyone,

I am interested in building a GSM/GPRS cellular phone and implementing some additional software to enhance the phone's capabilities.

I understand that most cellular phones are built around a gsm/gprs modules (such as those from AGERE). Yet I have no clue as to how to go about this project.

I would be gratefull if anyone could help me out or refer me to information about cellular phones design and programming.
