GPS

i need help to find the right GPS receiver. i want to use it in my vehicle tracking system. and i need it to be highly cost effective.so could anyone help me out with it.
i know this might sound dumb to some ppl but does the GPS service cost something or is it free for anyone to use?? :?:

uBlox made small, cheap GPS modules.
The GPS module only a receiver, when "see" more than 3 satellite, give exact position info as datastream. This is free, but need a mobile phone for data transmit.

No! GPS service does not cost a dime to use. Check out www.sparkfun.com for some excellent, cheap and extremely small GPS receivers. They spit out standard NMEA strings so it will be easy to intercept and decode.
