For what type or series of IC?

Different series / families need different programming techniques.
It could be anything from EPROMs through MCUs ??

If its 8051 series, there are schematics available... If its an old one, you will need a parallel programmer, the latest use spi and a usb circuit.... There is a usb circuit on instuctables that uses arduino..
