You can also save money by using wall warts to power your projects. Beware of the lack of regulation in many of them; someonesdad at AAC posted some measurements of a sample of warts. It might also be wise to build yourself a power supply from a computer power supply; it would be inexpensive and you'd learn some good techniques and troubleshooting skills. One of the things you'll learn is that every project you undertake at your bench will involve doing some troubleshooting.
