Thinking caps on folks.. is this device real or bogus?
Here's the manufacturers pitch and the device also features in a UK TV advert for a company that converts old gold jewelery into cash. Device is attached to test item with crocadile clips and hey presto it tells you how pure the gold is.
"electronic gold tester. Most dependable gold tester ever made. Reliably measures gold karattage to the nearest karat in the 6 to 18 karat range. Above 18 karats unit reads 18 karats or more. Karat readings appear directly on lcd display. The unit also detects platinum and distinguishes between solid and gold plated items."
Some form of conductive gel may also be employed as the makers of the device offer replacement packs.
