Factory reset on Onkyo HT-R500

The surround sound amp was put in circuit protect mode while the owner was watching a movie with the bass up high. Not sure exactly what is wrong, it's hard to test when the relays cycle the circuits off after three clicks. I've been told there is a factory reset that can be done when this happens that could reset it. Does anyone know where I can get free schematics? That would help a lot.

To reset the surround mode and other settings to the factory default settings, hold down the VIDEO 1 button with the
HT-R500 turned on and then press the STANDBY/ON button. “Clear” appears in the front display and the HT-R500 enters the
standby state.

You might also try the standard reset procedure:
1. switch off the unit.
2. Disconnect the unit from power supply.
3. Disconnect any other units connected to it.
4. Leave it disconnected for 30 minutes.
5. it should reset itself then start again.

Let us know if any of these work.

if it's still clicking off, it's going into protect mode. probably a pair of output transistors shorted, as well as a few other components burnt. with Onkyo amps and receivers, once the problem is repaired, it will stay on when you turn it on. Pioneer and some Yamaha receivers are the ones that need a protection override reset (a factory default reset doesn't clear this, since both Pioneer and Yamaha require several minutes of stepping through menus to clear the protection history).
