Hello there,

Does ETO have any affiliate sites?

I've been reading about sites in general and found that some web sites have other sites that cooperate with each other, how i am not sure yet though :)
I suppose they help each other out with traffic or information or something?

Are you talking about these websites or something else?:

https://www.free-electronic-circuits.com/

https://www.learningelectronics.net/

If so, I am a member of ETO for say 5 years. But Last week was the first time I noticed the existence of these 2 above links in this forum!!!
They are put in a place where most of people do not care of! well I am not sure if ETO is an affiliate of those 2 websites or not, But due to their URL position in this forum, I don't think so.

Where are those links? I don't see them.

Hello DerStrom.

Well, In this picture, you can see them. I noticed them just after I read this thread, looking for something as "afiliate" site in this forum.
I am not sure why the web master tried to put those links at that place where nobody can see them!!

Yes, The place/position of them is starnge to me. That's why I don't think they are Affiliate's of this forum or so. Apart from that I don't see any other point as a direction that ETO has or is an Affiliate forum.

Hello wizard.

I was one of the first people to register at Learning Electronics. We tried (myself and the Webmaster/Owner and a few others) to get traffic. Very difficult to start an Electronics site. So a Competition was held. For the record...I won a Voucher worth 50$. And I purchased a Torch all the way from America.

Shipping fees to South Africa: 45$
Value of Torch: 5$

I tracked my little prize from America all the way to England and finally here to South Africa.

I got my little Dorcy as promised by the site owner. An honorable person of note.

The site has been closed for Forums. All the other info is there still. God speed that you may return. And do well.
. I really wish I could of helped more :)

Hi,

That's interesting. So the site did not do too well? That's what i thought might happen with a forum or site dedicated to purely electronics. There are a lot of people interested in things like TV's, radios, PC's, cell phones, etc., but not that many overall that are interested in the circuits themselves that are used to create these wonderful products. Most people would prefer to go out and buy a LED torch rather than build their own like many of us do here. My best lights i either designed and built myself (simple circuits really) or else i modified a device's circuit to work the way i wanted it to work. Not many people want to get that involved with it as i think you need a basic love of electricity to get into it that much. People LOVE electronic gadgets, but they do not love electricity itself.

Also, sorry to hear the shipping was so huge on that one small item. I didnt realize it was that much to ship there. I wonder if it would be cheaper if by USPS Priority mail? I had shipped to Australia a few times for much cheaper than that using Priority mail so that's why i ask. I used to make four channel electronic voltmeter chips and sell them and some in AU bought them :)

But back to the main topic, are those two sites then considered to be 'affiliates' because they are linked to on this site?

Thanks :)

Hi Mr Al

It was an uphill battle. Not enough quality people or posters could be drawn to the Site to help. Just people that stumbled across it and asked questions. And then all could not be answered.

Very, very hard without a core of loyal knowledgeable people. No matter how full of quirks and stuff they are. All this takes time to establish.

And heaps of trust and care and understanding to keep the good buggers there once they start helping out. ETO understands that. Many sites don't.

I used to get sad looking at Learning Electronics website...new kid on the block. Could not attract the solid knowledge that makes an Electronics website.

Good learning curve for me though...Porn sites = instant Money....Bah. Accurate Technical Sites = Lots of hard work. No pretty pictures. Just work. Always. I like that. Anyone can do porn. Only Technical people can talk about Technical stuff. Properly and accurately ;)

Thanks Guys,

Hi again,

Oh sorry to hear that. Well for me the electronics things are just a hobby now anyway so i just do it now because it is my main interest and always has been.

So other sites make more money? That's too bad, i guess i got into the wrong business too then :) But i dont like the other topics too much so im stuck with what i got.

Hi Mr Al

Sorry I did not answer all the questions you asked :)

But yeah....Freight Charges to South Africa are hectic. I started out shopping with my little 50$ voucher. After deciding on a state of the art brilliant light...Amazon calculated the shipping charges...much much more than I expected.

So the 50$ light became a 5$ one. Lesson learn't though. LOL. That's how I got Dorcy. Check it out.

https://www.dorcy.com/

The light floats too.

Stay well
