I need to find a readily available replacement for a 2SC2120-Y Transistor.

Working on a Emerson TV Model#:LC320EM2.

Thank You

I was hoping someone might be able to tell me of a substitute that I could get from Digikey or Mouser.
As i am just learning and this is my first attempt at repairing a TV.
As the transistor I'm trying to replace is obsolete I was hoping to get some guidance as to a good substitute.
I've only managed to confuse my self even more in my attempt to locate a replacement.
I am disabled and the Medications I take make it hard to concentrate for any length of time.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Hy Ice,

Welcome to ETO,

I see you are from the US- care to tell us which state and put it in your identity window on the left. This saves us time having to look it up in your profile to establish your mains supply and component suppliers you can access. Also it is interesting to know where people are from.

It is dangerous to just go by transistor type to find a replacement, especially with TVs. It would be better if you could post the part of the schematic concerned.

In spite of what I said above about the application, going by the 2SC2120 data sheet it is unlikely to be used in a demanding role, in your TV.

As a consequence I am quite confident that a BC337 will be a good replacement. You will have to bend the leads to suit the TV printed circuit board because the lead order is different. Looking at the lead exit side and orientating the transistors as a 'D', the 2SC2120 lead order, from top down, is BCE, while the BC337 is the now more common, EBC.

The BC337 is available cheaply from many sources.

Attached is the schematic. The location is marked with a yellow arrow.
Location is Q601 for the 2SC2120-Y Transistor.

Hy Ice,

I see you are from South Carolina

No probs about help.

Thanks for the picture of the transistor location in the TV, but afraid that is no help. I should have made it clear that it is the schematic (circuit diagram) rather than the physical layout that would help us know what the transistor function in the TV is.

Don't worry though. As I said previously, going by the data sheet for the 2SC2120, it is not going to be in a particularly demanding role.

Original part probably available from here: **broken link removed** It will take a while to get to the US, but they are a nice company to work with.

or NTE 289A https://www.weisd.com/test/GenericParts_WEISD_view.php?editid1=2SC2120Y

Allied electrons and Newark.com has it as well.

If you don't know NTE (www.nteinc.com) was a major replacement supplier in the day. We had NTE and ECG and SK (RCA) all made replacement transistors and IC's.
Most of the time they worked.
