Sometimes I think, by using names and metaphors, we actually end up confusing ourselves.The "motion" description is a metaphor to try to picture a property that is otherwise incomprehensible because there's nothing like it in the observable world.

Maybe, but it'll be hard to tell because one rotation is a VERY long time. We can look at older Galaxies and guess that one of the disc type ones was like ours once, but there is no way to prove it.Surely, after a few rotations the spiral will turn into a disc.
