How complex do you want the project to be?

One of my high-school classmates built his own power supply-- it had a 0-150vdc variable side, a 5vdc fixed and a 12vdc fixed with a built-in digital display.

Another managed to hit the right intermediate frequency when slapping together an oscillator circuit to be able to change the radio station on an FM receiver remotely... he earned many cool points on that day.
