Duplicating Keybaord Functions...

Goal: To have a single push-button (SPST) replicate multi-task keyboard functions. Example: I press a single PB, which closes (in sequential order) the loops to the keybaord decoder for CTRL and then SHIFT and then F2. I need the same action-effect as if I did CTRL+SHIFT+F2 on the keyboard. Some are just 2-element (SHIFT+Y) and some are just one element (J). I can do each of these loops using discrete logic gates, but the thing is, there are quite a few possible combinations and variations...I'd like to be able to "fire" any of these loops with a dedicated push-button, but they have to be fired in the order (delayed) as it would happen on the keybaord. I have a good keybaord controller PCB. Maybe I should be thinking "microcontroller", and I'll post this message in that area, as well.

Any brilliant ideas kicking around out here??

Thanks in advance for any help...
