Dual Rail Power Supply

I am in the process of building a Dual Rail Bench Top Power Supply.
I have a centre tapped transformer giving +- 38V.
I would appreciate circuit ideas that would incorporate the following:

- Variable Positive and Negative voltage outputs
- Between 3 and 5 amps maximum current output capability
- Variable current limiting

There are plenty of application notes on Google, but the problem is normally with low output voltage @ full current if you are using linear regulators, meaning lots of heat and bulky heatsinks.
