Driving an ESC

Hi all.

I'd like to drive a combination LiPoly battery/ESC/Brushless motor, assembled with standard (off-the-shelf) components for RC air planes, but excluding/replacing the digital proportional FM receiver.

Of course, I will to replace the receiver' output with a more direct representation of user input: something like a power throttle.

So, someone knows what kind of signal the receiver feed to the ESC, on the three pole connector, or where I could retrieve some documentation?
Something like PWM is applicable here?

The ESC model: RC Smart 30A ESC.
A possible receiver model:Esky Hobby 6ch FM 35MHz Digital Proportional Receiver

Many thanks
Carlo

Radio control models use PWM for servo drive and for speed control. 1ms pulses are the lowest and 2ms pulses are the highest.
Look in Google for a "servo test circuit".
