direction movement sensor circuit

Hi Am raj.. am looking for a direction movement sensor circuit in connection with my project. I had tried with proximity sensor(IR) and PIR.

This we are going to use in the bathroom where the lights can be switched on and off if some one goes in side and out side. IR has problem since it detects non body items also.

I had tried with PIR but it not giving a constand out put every time. Can u please herlp me in this.... thanks

Put a switch on the hinge of the door.
Door opens person is going in.
Door opens again person is going out.

Use a PIR as well so if someone is moving in the bathroom it resets the timer, in case someone lets someone else in.
