Dialog Semiconductor to acquire Atmel for $4.6 Billion

Think it has anything to do with whats going on with Arduino? Last I heard the company had sort of split into two.

I don't think Arduino has much impact on the overall Atmel market. Dialog wishes to expand its market into the IOT and automotive processor industry which is Atmels key focus.
