Why current transformer burnt if its leads left open?

high primary current CT transformers can have very very high turns ratio and if secondary winding left unloaded while a primary wire through the donut hole is still active, secondary voltage rises to point of burning insulation of secondary wiring and shorting secondary windings, very bad.

Most high current CT have an accessory shorting bar available so secondary winding will not go open when disconnecting secondary wiring to measuring load.
