hi,
i wan to work on my IR sensors now..
i'd surf the components on the farnell and cpc uk website,
they are few words confusing me..
normally IR sensors we need transmitter and receiver right?
then, some of them will use "emitter" and "detector" this word.
so i would like to ask u all, is transmitter = emitter? receiver = detector?
i found a IR receiver in farnell and it is 3 legs. i not really familiar with it. can anybody teach me?

hi,
The IR receiver from Farnell would have a datasheet ready for download.
Visit Farnell, search for the type number and download the data.

transmitter = emitter? receiver = detector?

Thats correct.

They refer to the same area of the system, but are not identical.

In general, a transmitter includes the associated drive electronics along with the IR emitter (diode). Similarly the receiver includes the associated signal processing electronics along with the IR detector (diode or transistor).

some body from this forum gave me this link.
from the circuit, is the IR led same with the IR emitter?
cheers.

hi,
Some people do call IR Emitters, IR LED's, they are the same.
