I've never understood why people use PCs when PLCs are often a more convenient and simpler option. Some of the smaller units are under £60 nowadays.

Because people have PC's - they don't generally have PLC's.

For that matter though, why use PLC's when you can use a PIC?, only a couple of pounds and far more versatile than a PLC.
