Compensator networks

Does anyone new how a compensator network works? Im currently working on a buck converter design, but im stuck on the compensator block.
 
The attached from TI pretty well covers the topic. Likely more than you want to know, but control loops are not simple.

Edit: What type of circuit are you using for the control. Is it a standard switching regulator IC? They usually have standard design equations to help with calculating the loop compensation values.
