Common Emitter Transistor Amplifier

Hey guys, im new here to hello to everyone

I have been asked to explain what a Common Emitter Transistor Amplifier is

Now i know that in laymans terms it takes a varing signal and amplifies it but is there a way i can explain this in a way that isn't so obtuse?

A common emitter transistor amplifier is a particular configuration of a bipolar transistor with the emitter connected to (AC) common (ground). It is the most common configuration for this type of transistor when amplifying analog signals. Two other configurations are common-base and common-collector (emitter-follower).
