i would like to modify a CMOS signal so that if it goes high several times in a half second, i only get that it was high for a half second. is there a capacitor configuration i could use that would stay high for all the little triggers, then discharge and start over when triggered again?

I used this circuit in many applications.

Substituting the 100K & the 10uF with otther values will give you different timings.

t=1.1XRXC In this case about 1.1 seconds (1.1 X 100 X 10) / 1000

Hope this helps
