Clearing and input pin - what is its consequence?

Normally, if I set a GPIO pin as an Input pin, for example, P1_2, and then i command: P1_2 = 0;
What does it do?

Nothing whatsoever (to the outside world), although it will write to the output port buffer inside the chip.

I read about a pin in my MCU that is cold software controlled peripheral VDD, which is the P1_2 that the code set as input and wrote 0 to it.

Do you know in genral what is the pin's duty?
