Here's a large, alphabetical list of schematic symbols to get you started: **broken link removed**

Drawing and reading schematics is not hard. All you need to know is what each of the symbols mean. The rest is just wiring. When drawing a schematic diagram, it is important to keep it as neat and tidy as possible. This means no sloppy, angled, or curved lines (wires), make sure the lines (wires) don't go through other components, make it obvious whether two crossing wires are connected or not, etc. Avoid overlapping components and their connections. Orient similar components in the same direction as often as possible. This means, for example, if a circuit has three NPN transistors, make sure the base of each transistor is on the same side as the base of the other transistors, as with the emitters and collectors (when possible). Also, try to keep your positive buses on the top and ground (negative) buses on the bottom. This helps make the circuit easier to read. Finally, if you're creating schematic diagrams with chips, make sure they are oriented with inputs on one side and outputs on the other. This makes the circuit much easier to follow when being read.
