I used to use flash magic on the atmel 89C series of micro's... It was just a boot loading tool. On those devices keeping a certain pin low whilst powering up, selected a boot loader resident on the chip.
A boot loader is the small program in the highest portion of program flash, that allows you to up load your program serially.. the vector is the flash location of the start position of this small program.
