Bug Zapper

There is a component on this bug zapper that is (was) connected to a 2kv cap and the metal grid that zaps bugs, any idea what it could be?

It won't be worth the trouble, the entire end of the high voltage side is fried from the transformer back to those 2kv caps.
I have voltage going into the transformer but nothing coming out.
Diodes and one or more capacitors are gone.
 
It was probably thrown into the design as a quick fix and eventually failed. Draw the schematic.
