I have a catalog with specifications on bipolar transistors.

Unfortunately I'm unsure of certain properties that are listed. Different catalogs seem to label their properties differently.

The properties are as follows:

POL: NS or PS
Vce(mA): I'm guessing is Voltage from Collector to Emitter
Vcb: Voltage from Collector to base?
Ic: Current that the transistor can handle?
Vces: Unknown
Vces @ Ic(mA): Confusing and unknown
hFe: The amplification
hFe@Ic(mA): Amplification at current?
FT Mhz: Frequency of somesort
FT Mhz @ Ic (mA): Frequency at current?
Ptot mW: milliwatts transistor can handle?

Can anyone elaborate on these properties or correct where I am wrong?

You are pretty much correct. I am not sure with out looking as to the Vces. I normally see Vceo which would be Voltage, Collector to Emmiter, base Open

Vce@Ic is the standard generic rating - transistor voltage and current.

hFe is the current gain which varies with collector current AND temperature.

FT is the frequency rating - don't expect ANY current gain past this frequency. Since hFe varies with current so does this number, though I do not recall ever seeing it actually speced over frequency.

Finally, you are correct about Ptot, but be careful as this number is misleading, it is usually speced as being on a perfect heat sink for power components and non on say a TO92.

I'm partially confused.

My question was; "What are rhe prooerties of a Bipolar Transistor?"

I badly needed to know.

That's too general a question. That's like saying, what are the properties of an automobile?
What specifically do you want to know about a BJT?
